Does what it says on the tin  |

Provided my AMD 450 better sound than its onboard could offer. Gave a reasonable amount of bass through a cheap pair of speakers. Only gripe as that when the microphone was used, the screen flickered. Good for older PCs.

It just works |

There are a ton of sound cards that are better, no doubt, but what Sound Blaster 16 PCI gives you is the something thats cheap, and which will work with everything. Included with it are a number of software applications that youll never use, but once its installed you will have a sound card that does what you expect from a sound card. On-board connectors are: microphone in, line level out, MIDI / joystick port, aux in, line in, speaker out, and MPC-3 CD audio in. According to the package, it supports Environmental Audio(tm) games, Microsoft(r) DirectSound(r) and DirectSound(r)3D for 2 speakers, has Creative sysnthesiser with 128-voice polyphony, digital effects engine for reverb and chorus, 2MB, 4MB, and 8MB wave-table sample sets included, sample rates from 5kHz to 48kHz with 16-bit precision, and hardware full-duplex support. But what it really comes down to is you plug it in, install the software, and it all just works.
